When Steve started the Agency in 1984, he quickly realized that if the only tool he had was a hammer, then all his problems would start to look like nails. So he traded in the hammer for a more efficient multi-tool to help handle the day-to-day challenges of running a marketing communications firm. It allows him to be a jack-of-all-trades and a master of as many as possible when it comes to helping our clients solve their communications challenges and achieve their marketing objectives.
The multi-tool even comes in handy outside the office. It’s the first thing Steve packs before his annual 10-day survival trek in the Rockies and its ruler is used to support claims of record-setting trout. With it, Steve makes sure there’s never one that gets away.
Steve makes sure opportunities to improve the Agency and to better serve our clients never get away either. He serves on advisory councils for many organizations, including Smithers Medical Products, Pain Management Technologies, Business Communications Forum, AvWorld LLC, The Mandala Center for Healing Arts, Ready Set Grow! and Cohen and Company. Steve also facilitates meetings between management, supervisors and employees at United Dental Laboratories, continuously looking for ways to help them improve internal communications and quality.
Prior to starting the Agency, Steve served as Art Director at Grey Advertising in New York, which at the time was the third largest ad agency in the world. Among the accounts he served were Canon USA, Inc., Creslan, Charter Publishing, Van Heusen, Wallace Sterling, Leading Hotels of the World, Timex, Borden, Inc. and the International Institute for Medical Sciences.
As Strategic Planner at Caler&Company, Steve develops growth strategies, identifies and pursues new business opportunities, and fosters the teamwork and “make it happen” attitudes among the staff that are representative of the company. He also designed the Agency’s proprietary software job production and tracking system, which provides real time job status of all Agency activity.
In addition to running the Caler&Company business, Steve emphasizes the need to understand our clients’ businesses. He shortens learning curves when working with new clients and is knowledgeable about trends and advancements in long-term clients’ industries.
