Our chance to make our world better surrounds us. Choosing to act is always available, yet often ignored. Better is seeing the need and acting to fill the void. Better is hearing the call and acting to improve. Better is knowing the easy wrong but choosing the harder right. Better is choosing the difficult path over that which is comfortable. We know what the hard path will inevitably yield. Better is the call to action, a rallying cry, a disdain for mediocrity. Better requires courage, determination, passion.
It has often been said, “A ship in safe harbor is safe, but that is not what a ship is built for.” Neither are we. Security is an illusion. Paying homage to it makes cowards of us all. Each of our organizations are always in the process of change, transition, evolution, growth, decline. They are validated or slide into the abyss. They get better or they get worse. Often it is a choice. What do we value? What are our priorities? Who are we? And so comes the challenge of creating and managing our brands. Will you choose to unleash the power lying dormant within your brand or will you simply allow it to choose you? Your brand is far more powerful than you might ever imagine. In the dark, while we sit on the edge of the bed with a sock in one hand and chin in the other, we face the foreboding question that demands an answer. Is it better? Did I make a difference? Have I done my best? You know the answer. Better is not just what we do, it is who we are. Be fearless. Choose wisely.
